February, finished

I love the February pattern. I made these for my sister. She had requested red socks and I had just the perfect color. I changed the ribbing to just a twist for more stretch. Now I am ready for March.

Simply Last Minute

I'm sure I won't be the last, but close... These were my 1st toe-up socks, and I knit Magic Loop, so this pattern really challenged me. I had needles flying everywhere! LOL. At one point I had 3 circs and 2 dpns going. But I made it through to the end. Woohoo! (Just don't look too closely, I still have a bit to learn. )

I made a couple of modifications: (1) I reduced to 60 stitches rather than 64 around, since I have a narrow foot; and (2) I did 2 repeats on the leg, not because I was running out of time (which of course I was), but because I was running out of yarn. I used Knit Picks Risata.

Pic... (Don't they look nice against my paste-y white skin?)
Simply love2

I really love the design, especially the cuff.

My first pair ever !

I made it ! Just finished my first pair of socks! I knitted big woolen socks as a teen, but that is way waaaayyy back. :) I have to admit that i did not do the toe up, i just did not understand. I would need someone to show me so i am thinking of taking a workshop in a yarn store. Would be fun. I also did hearts only on the front because i had to reduce stitches since my feet are so small. I was afraid 64 was too many for me. The striping yarn was not ideal for the pattern, but that is all i could get my hands on at the time.Hope it still make me eligible for the draw ? Anyway, it was really fun and thanks to Annie ! Can't wait to see the march pattern !

Simply Love--At the Last Minute!

If I hadn't been so busy finishing a sweater, another pair of socks, and tending to surgery and broken bones (see my blog for details) these socks would have been done much earlier in the month. This was a wonderful pattern and I have received more compliments on this pair (in waiting rooms, doctors offices, etc) than I have on any other pair that I have knit in public.
I used my own hand dyed yarn--a donegal tweed superwash wool dyed with cherry red dye. I loved the clever ribbing at the top. This was a wonderful pattern and I really enjoyed making them!! You could say that I "Simply Love" these "Socks"!!

Not this month

I'm not going to get this month's socks made. Since my DH opened a coffee shop Feb. 12, it seems like our lives have been consumed by that. Maybe next month...

First One!

Yay! I finally finished a Sockamania Sock!
So much knitting, so little time....

Finished Just In Time

I havent really had much time to get these done this past month with one thing and another but finally got them off the needles about 10 mins ago.
I have used Anni's merino sock yarn in strawberry punch (i think it is) which i have had in stash for a while now. Needles used were addi turbo 2.5mm because i didnt have any 2.25mm, will have to invest in some i think as these are a little baggier than i prefer. Also i only did 2 pattern repeats on the legs as i have very short legs and they would have been knee length on me otherwise.

Do the Knitting Pixies Exist?

I really hope they do, else there's little chance of these socks getting finished by tomorrow. I've only got the leg of the second one to do but not enough time to do it. It's a pity as I really like this pattern. Haven't quite got the hang of the ribbing but I'm going to perservere as I like how it looks on the posted socks. Looking forward to March when I'll hopefully have loads of knitting time.

Wednesday 27 February 2008

Made it!

Purple Opal uni, on size 2mm circs.
Lovely fit - wish now I'd done the 3 repeats on the legs, instead of 2.
Looking forward to March!

awwwww

everyone's socks look so great!

i'm sad to report that i won't finish ~ have barely started ~ still on toe increases.

life kinda got in the way this month! :(

but here comes March - right?? !

No Socks for me

Hi! Well I didn't get to the February socks so hopefully I can finish the March ones when the pattern is released! I am looking forward to it!

lots of love

what a lovely pattern, it is beautiful! thanks

i used liisu yarn(now the unique sheep yarn) in the color rudolph. it has a bit of mohair in it and i love these colors.

my daughter is modeling and my son shot the picture.

Simply Love These Socks!

Pattern: Simply Love from Sockamania Yarn: BMFA Socks That Rock lightweight 100% Superwash Merino in the Firebird colorway (2007 Socks That Rock Yarn Club). Needles: Knitpick's 2.5 mm dpn's. Completed: February 24, 2008. Mods: I needed to knit these from the top down so I reversed the pattern and then changed it so that the hearts were scattered instead of patterned. I also knit the cuff in p2 /k2tbl ribbing.

Last Day For February Socks

Reminder that February is a short month. To be eligible for this months drawing remember to post your completed February socks photos by Friday, February 29th.

2 1/2 socks don't make a pair

2 1/2 socks don't make a pair

On the bottom of the picture you can see a completed New Year sock. On the top you can see a completed Ripple sock and it's half size mate. It would be great if I could finish it by the end of the month but I don't think that's going to happen! I guess I'll finish them in March. Once that one is done I'll work on knitting the pair to the New Year sock. I'm also looking forward to getting the March pattern! : )

You know you have too much yarn

I just started the socks on Saturday and didn't have suitable yarn. All my sock yarn are too striping so I was afraid that the heart would disappear.

So I went and bought yarn, not the color I would have liked but it was the least striping that I could find. Started knitting and am now on the foot of the first sock.
Guess what? This morning I found suitable yarn in my OWN house. And two different balls of yarn that I would have loved to make these socks from ... Maybe some other time.

These are going to be to big for my feet. At one point I thought that maybe I would share the socks with someone who has bigger feet, but nah - I can use them even if they are a bit big.

Love is Blue

I used Knitpicks Fellici in the Coastal colorway. I didn't think self-striping yarn was the best choice for these socks, but we are traveling in our RV, and I was miles from a yarn shop--this was the best of what I had with me. They turned out better than I expected, and will be perfect for my sister who had a hysterectomy today; her favorite color is blue. As usual, I changed the pattern a bit. I tried Cat Bordhi's "bubble trail" yarn over increases for the gussets and like how they compliment the yarn overs in the hearts. I also tried a picot bind off I found on Knitty.com; it was easy to do and I think it makes the socks extra "girly." I love the twisted rib cuff and will use it again on future socks. Thanks, Anni! Looking forward to March's pattern.

Just finished!

I just finished these this morning - I would have been a bit quicker apart from two little glitches........(entirely of my own making - nothing to to do with the pattern!)

My first problem was the sewn bind off. I've tried this before and gave up because I was making such a mess, so this time I was determined to make it work. I was so anxious not to make it too tight, that I did the opposite and ended up with a frilly edge! That was no good, so I had to unpck it & start again. Why does it take 10 times as long to unpick things as it takes to do them wrong?
The second attempt was much better and does give a lovely stretchy edge. I might make more toe up socks now that I've got that problem sorted.
The other problem was the heel of the second sock. I developed a sudden inability to count and ended up redoing it (twice).
I used Regia Surprise yarn with 2 circular 2.25mm needles. I used Judy's Magic Cast On (because I've just learned it).
I made the leg a bit shorter (2 full pattern repeats plus half a repeat left over from the foot) and I only did three repeats of the rib.
I really liked the pattern and I'm very pleased with the socks.
Thanks again, Anni.

Simply a pair of socks

here they are... with a few mods due to sockergirl's poor math calculations and cheap yarn purchasing skills. The yarn may have cost me $5 for both skeins. Thanks for the pattern and look forward to next months choice.

Again, with picture!

Oh the joys of doing something new, uploading pics to Blogger! Anyhow, here are my Simply Loves, finished last week. Saturday I managed to upload an entry, but no photo.

Great fun to knit - once I'd worked out how to position the single hearts! All ready to be sent to Mum for Mothering Sunday (2nd March).

I've discovered that my socks wear under the heels and balls of of my feet - any ideas for how to reinforce them as I knit, rather than darning later?

Some Progress To Report

All the finished "Simply Love" socks are wonderful! I'm just so darned happy to be participating this month, the last couple have been a bit of a bust (sock-wise) for me :).
I adore this pattern, although I have modified it for my taste, and am working cuff-down. The Yarn is phenomenal to knit with, and the stripes - somewhat unexpected (varigation yes, this much stripe no) seem to work anyway. Rather "soft & sweet" but not too much :)! The second cuff is done and hopefully I'll have a finished pair to share at the beginning of next week.

finished yesterday!!!

Used online sock yarn that was overdyed with wiltons and kool-aid to get a more solid color yarn and size 2 needles, ML method-This was so much fun, can't wait for March!

Simply Love - Newbie

First ever attempt at a Sockmania KAL. As neither of our two LYSs stock variegated sock yarn I chose two shades of pink sock yarn & a red merino 4-ply. After some initial wondering about stripes I came up with these.

Love the toe-up construction - hardly any sewing! Used my favourite short-row heel to fit with the colour scheme, & may have shortened the ribbing slightly! They will be an excellent Mothering Sunday gift for my Mum.

NB: Another time time I knit stripes with several balls of yarn I'll make sure to have more than two rows per stripe!

Looking forward to the March pattern.

Thursday 14 February 2008

oh my !

Hi, i am a newbie here and i am so ashamed to say i did not even started yet. :( I have never knitted a pair of socks before ( well a few pairs years years ago ) i decided to knit a basic pattern just so i could see how good i can be and how it would fit my small feet. With 56 stiches, using a sock yarn with 2,5mm dpn, they are just perfect. I was wondering if 64 stiches will make my socks too big for me ? What if i use smaller dpn ? If i use less stitches will the pattern fit ?

So confused. :(

Simply Love my Simply Love Socks

I finished these a few days ago, but didn't get around to taking a picture until today. This was a great pattern. It was a bit sad when I got to the final repeat of the hearts - may have to make them again. I have red yarn in my stash, but decided to do these in a purple color "Columbine" from Wildfoote yarn. They are yummy to wear and everyone loves them.
Now I just have to get better at taking pictures of socks!

2 days before Valentine's Day...

....and I am finished with my Simply Love Socks.
Thank you for the lovely pattern and the gourgous yarn, Anni.

Newbie Cast-on February

Hi there-
I'm new here. I cast on my first sockamania socks on Saturday. I'm using KP Risata and knitting 2 at once on Magic Loop. These are my first toe-up socks. I'm enjoying the pattern. I modified slightly to remove 4 stitches since I have a narrow foot.

One day I'll finish on time

So I once again missed the deadline by quite a bit. I did finish these mid-week, so less than 1 week late. However, I am really thrilled with them, and they were great fun to knit!

100_1944
Yarn: Trekking Pro Natura, colour 1607.
Modifications (always!): I decided to follow the Riverbed master pattern from Cat Bordhi's New Pathways book. The real benefit here was that this yarn is a bit on the thin side, and I wanted to use my 2.25 mm needles, but there was no way the pattern as written would fit at that size. Cat Bordhi's book has enabled me to feel confident about adjusting the number of stitches I use to get a good fit, and in this case I went up to 72. They fit great! You can see a close-up of the increases (on the bottom of the foot in the Riverbed pattern) and the heel:
100_1946

The pattern was really fun and quick to knit when I actually had time to sit and work on it--the month was just too busy for that to happen much.

I am planning to do February, although I'm sure I'll be slow on those, too. I just picked some yarn by random draw from my stash (lots of pink/red/coral combinations in there to choose from, although I think I would have gone ahead with it in another colour if I had picked it!). I will be trying this yarn:
100_1951
That's Middle Earth Yarns merino/alpaca sock yarn, colourway "Balrog." It's really deliciously soft, so I'm not sure if these will be for me or a gift. Hmm.

Simply love finished

I have finished mine. Was really surprised how fast these knit up. And I'm starting to get the hang of toe-up knitting. Actually I'm starting to like it. That's really worrying. Oh well.
I really like how my socks turned out - I used a strong, solid pink (it's Valentine's Day soon!) from Opal and knit these up on 2mm needles and this time my gauge didn't grow! Yay! Am really sorry to give these away as a birthday present for a good friend, but she has smaller feet than me, so they will not fit me (and this time this is a good thing! ;) )

That's a great pattern, Anni! Thanks for this!

im done with the foot and am working on the heel, just counted the wraps wrong so i need to redo! this is another beautiful pattern and i love it! here is a progress picture, it is out of lisu(sp) yarn that has some mohair in it and the colorway is rudolph. it is very soft and nice to work with.

Saturday 9 February 2008

One more to go...

I have finished my first sock, and I have been cheated, not because I don't do toe ups, but I don't like it.
But, look at this beauty, I surely have a lucky friend at Valentine....

Can I cheat?

I wanted a challenge and Simply Love is providing it. LOL! I've never knitted socks from the toe up before. I've been frogging so much this week I'm sprouting lily-pads.

I need to take a class in this technique. I'd really like to learn how it's done and feel I need to be shown before the light-bulb moment will happen.

No time before Valentine's Day so - the cheating bit: can I do them from the rib down? I hope so 'cos I have the first one almost ready for the toe decreasing.

Anybody else doing it this way, remember to turn the heart around. :O)

Finished February

I used US size 1 (2.25 mm) needles and Meilenweit 100 Marmi for this month's socks. They came out great. I love the way that the twisted rib cuff looks, but it sure was a struggle to knit. :) Thanks for another great pattern, Anni.

simple love

Done with February's pattern-or not...I have to admit that toe-up socks are not my favourite...I can' figure out short rows and wraps! So I've cheated a bit- cast on with a figure8, increased to 60 stitches(because the first time, with 64 st., they got too big:-(), did a ribbing in the sides and an afterthought heel (that's the brown line in that second sock) Also, t second sock was knit using magig loop, a method I haven't tried before, but I needed a portable project for some ferryrides and a wait at the dentist on Tuesday! DPN's are not very portable...It was okay to knit with magic loop, but it took too long to "shift" between the two halves. All a matter of practice, I presume. I went back on DPN's for the cuff... I made only two repeats on the leg, and they got tall enough. And here they are, all done, ends and all woven in. Nice pattern, I'm sure I'll use it again.

Ripples Finally Finished!

After so many trips to the frog pond, I had almost given up on these socks.

But -- here in all their glory, my Ripples! I'm so glad I finished them, they are wonderful.

I knitted my socks top down instead of toe up. Yarn is Happy Feet by Plymouth in shades of deep blue, red and purple. Josh, the cat, decided he wanted to be included in the photo. No, he isn't wearing the socks.

TYPO

Just been informed of a typo in the written instrucitons for the socks. The total stitch count is 64 st, 32 st for the top of the foot and 32 st for the sole of the foot. I'm e-mailing out corrected pattern and chart but as I can only do half hte mailing list in one day some of you will get it tomorrow.

Thank you to those of you who can do maths better than me.

I'm going back into hiding now I think. Next time I'll get someone who can add up and read charts to proof read my pattern.

Sorry guys.

ERRATA

Hi,

I've finished e-mailing out the February pattern now. However as usual there was a long list of mail delivery failure notifications that came in return, so if you didn't get it please e-mail us.

There is an error in the chart for the leg. I checked the charts so many times this time on different days to avoid errors but there is an error on row 17 of the chart on the leg. The last 2 stitches should be k2tog, yo. I can't send any more e-mails now as I've reached the quota for the e-mail account but I'll send out replacement charts as soon as I can.

On Row 19 of the leg chart there is '&' in one of the squares. This should be '^' which is SK2PO. Not sure how the '&' managed to sneak in there.

I'm so sorry for these two tiny errors. It's a pain with charts. I knitted from them and I went through them with a fine tooth comb several times before sending it out.

Good luck everyone.

Anni

Bit behind

Hello All

Not quite finished January socks yet but will post a pic when I do. Am loving the Feb pattern and can't wait to start them. Got some nice plain pink sock wool in mind for them.

As usual all of the socks you've posted are gorgeous.

Introduction

Just wanted to introduce myself! My name is Tiffany and I'm from Arkansas but just recently moved to Tokyo thanks to the US Air Force. I'm excited to be with this group and it will definately help me in my mission to make socks for all the girls in my family for their birthdays this year.
Make sure to check out my blog here and you can basically see everything that has happend in my life over the past year.
I'm ready for February's pattern!

Friday 1 February 2008

Just wanted to show you all:-) The picture does not give the yarn full credit. Been knitting since I got home from the Ice-rink. I just can´t stop:-) Guess I´ll post my FO on Sunday ;-)

JANUARY NEW YEAR SOCKS WINNERS ARE......

Sandy & Steve AND Psalm 127

Well done ladies your socks are beautiful! Please e-mail Anni and let her know which skein of yarn you'd like from her Etsy shop and don't forget to include your address for shipping.

The February patterns have started going out today and will finish tomorrow. There are over 300 members of this group, and I know it is hard, but please be patient. The February pattern is beautiful and well worth the wait. If you haven't received your pattern by Monday, please let Anni know

Finishing Today

Well I didn't quite make it in time for the end of the month but almost. I am working the toe of New Year's Sock number 2 today. I will try to get a picture later today after the grafting is done. Congrats to all who are quicker knitters than I am. I am looking forward to the next pattern. I have cast on some Argyle Pirate socks a week ago and am working those up too for my daughter's best friend. I wonder if too many projects just might be part of my problem? LOL
Hi You all:-)

I am new to this group.

My yarn came yesterday (I think) and I will go pick it up from PO today.

I am so excitet to get started.

Unfortunately I have some sock on my favourite needle that I have to finish first.

They were boring :-(

But as soon as they are finished, I´ll start on febuaries socks:-)

Just need the pattern first;-)

I live in Sweden btw, with hubbie and two kids.

:-)

Emma

Finished!...but not quite right.

I finished the New Year socks. With the first one I had made an error but hadn't realized, really, until I was half way through the 2nd sock. Should I frog 'em both or forge ahead? I opted for the latter.
They aren't glaring errors. I few them as a learning experience. No one but I will know (and now all of you) but I am proudly wearing them as I post.

Eager for next month's challenge.

Nan

Well I made it with just a few hours to spare. A burst pipe under my kitchen sink really slowed me down. I hate it when life interferes with my knitting!
I used the January Sockamania Plus yarn. I enjoyed the pattern but I ended up using stockinette for the feet after trying the first one on.
Thanks for another great pattern Anni! My February pattern and yarn came today. I can't wait to get started.
