Rainforest is not completed.

The pattern is beautiful, but I procrastinated too long. My socks will not be done by midnight! You can bet I will start this month's as soon as it is posted. This week has been Eventful...Hubby had a birthday 6/25 and retired today...had SupriseVisit!!!! from our son and an expected visit from our eldest daughter. With 2 grandpuppies, 4 kids and a lot of excitement the needles sat idle. July will be calmer....maybe.

Speedway Socks

Blogger has not been my friend today, have had terrible trouble uploading, but here are one pair of this months socks.
i am not sure of the yarn as it came from Wolle Hausmann and had just a plain band on it, it feels like Opal but cant be certain. Needles used were 2.75mm Knitpicks circs.
I think the yarn that i chose really shows the pattern well, the chevrons are really well defined (although apologies if it doesnt look it in the pic as 10 year old DD took it)
I have made these in a size 6 for my sister who wanted a pair to go into hospital with next week when she has her baby.

Only just...

Here are my Rainforests - nice and close to the deadline, I've literally just finished the second and had to use the flash to take the piccie. Not quite burning the midnight oil but I did wonder whether my camera battery would be flat - you know how the printer always stopped working on that last minute essay...I knit these using 2.25mm Harmony DPNs which I just love soooo much. The yarn is Tofutsies in Get Your Feet Wet. I'm less passionate about this stuff I have to say. I found it very flat and lifeless and the plies tended to separate rather easily. The finished fabric is lovely and has a nice feel to it, so I have somewhat mixed feelings about the yarn overall.

Thanks for another lovely pattern Anni, a real fun knit when I buckled down and got on with it :o)

Stole slacker

I could only get to the second half, one plus change repeats. I wish that I had started a bit sooner, but my #5 needles were tied up, and I had wait until we were going to go to the big city to get another set. Congrats to those who finished on time!

Rainforest done

These were a very fast knit for me, and not only because they are short topped. It took me 6 days to finish these.

I used yarn that I had gotten in my Knitter's Connection membership bags last year and this year. The yarn is Claudia Hand Painted Yarns. The toe/heel is Baby Girl and I got it last year, the foot/leg is Strawberry Latte and I got it this year. The t/h said it had 50 grams but there was maybe 20 and the f/l also said 50 but there was way less. Everytime I have had 100 grams of yarn to knit a pair of socks for myself I have had about 1/3 of the ball left over and this time I had 9 pieces ranging from 1.5" to 10.5" of the f/l and about 4 yards of the t/h yarn. I did manage to finish a patter repeat instead of running out in the middle of it.

I did these toe up, ML, 2 at once. I used KP Options size 1 with a 40 " cable.

Speedway Socks

I just finished these 10 minutes ago, i had to get them done in time for the end of the month, they would have been done sooner but other projects got in the way first.
i am not sure of the yarn as it came from Wolle Hausmann and had just a plain band on it, it feels like Opal but cant be certain. Needles used were 2.75mm Knitpicks circs.

Summer's Rainforest

Here are the Rainforest socks in Petticoat Opal yarn. The same color way as Meike used with her sock's this month. Nice pattern!
Thanks for last months yarn. I know it is in the mailbox. I'll get a picture when I get home.

Speedway socks for June

They are the same size honest! Fortissima Socka colori on 2.75mm circs. Added a few garter stitch rows to the top of the cuff.

And yet another May Day...

I made it in time for once! And with a day to spare. So happy! And I really like the socks! The pattern is great and relatively easy.

I knit the larger size of the pattern with Mascot, the first shipment from the All Raveled Up sock club. And yes, it's rather busy but I love it. Defenitly no boring sock! ;) Knit on 2.5mm for the leg and heel and then I switched to 2.0mm needles for the foot. And they fit really, really well.
I'm a very happy bunny right now!
Thanks for all the great patterns this month, Anni, it was really hard to pick!

Celebration Shawl complete!

I finished up the knitting and blocked the stole to it's glory yesterday. I absolutely love this stole. The knitting is straightforward, and the lace pattern is very pretty. The yarn is a custom colorway that Scout of Scoutswag dyed for me. It's her merino laceweight. The stole is a smidge narrower than the finished dimensions as stated in the pattern, but I think this is because the laceweight I used is lighter than the laceweight called for. I think the simple lace pattern looks lovely with the colorway though. I'm quite pleased.

RAINFOREST FINISHED

These are my current favorite!! Thanks for another great pattern.

Another pair of May Days in June

I had actually finished these socks in early June but only recently got the invite for this blog. (Thank you for the invite, Pam. I know you are really busy and I really didn't mind to wait!)

I really loved this yarn that I got for June with Anni's Sock Club. Not a color I would normally have chosen but boy did they turn out nice! I really love these socks now and they fit really well (I have a tendency to make socks just a little bit too big). The pattern is just wonderful, easily memorized and quick knit. Half way through I feared the yarn wouldn't be enough (I do have big feet) but luckily I was wrong. I have just enough left over to make a mini sock keyring pendant. :)

May Day Scoks finished

This turned out way dark, but I'm sick of messing with it. I don't usually block my socks, but I think these will benefit. If they look large, it's because they are--men's size 12 for my brother, in Anni's beautiful YarnAddicts merino/bamboo in Intense Green. The yarn was alovely to work with. My husband, who is quite conservative, eyed them doubtfully and said,"Do you think he'll actually wear them?" Yes, he actually will, and he'll love them!

Friday 27 June 2008

Thank you, Anni!

My yarn arrived this afternoon, and it's just lovely. Thanks so much!

Hubby has already started making overtures of how perfect it is for his next pair of socks. LOL. Wonder what I can extract from him in return....

Sockamania PLUS

First I want to say well done to everyone who's finished a pair of socks already this month. I've just been scanning through the blog and the socks all look fab. So many gorgeous colourways and a variety of patterns. If you've not finished you've got the weekend and Monday to get them done and posted.

Now a little plug for Sockamania PLUS Merino Sock Club. If you want more than a pattern each month, sign up for the PLUS club and get a 100gr skein of YarnAddict Superwash Merino Sock Yarn too. The yarn will be especially hand dyed in a colourway to suit the monthly sock pattern. I've just posted July's parcels but you can sign up now for August.

Here are some pics of previous month's colourways:

Simply Cables at last

These are my first contribution to the blog. The cables were tough going at first, but by the time I started the second sock, I felt much more competent with them. I love the classic elegance of this design and will definitely be doing it again. The socks were knit with Scheepjes Invicta Extra on size 0 circulars. I used a 5" bamboo double pointed needle to work the cables. The yarn really is not as vibrant an orange as the photo would suggest; it is more of a pumpkin color. Anyhow, thanks, Anni, for such a lovely design.

Speedway Completed

The perfect pattern for my varigated yarn! Vinca, color 9. US2

Thank you, Anni, for another beautiful sock pattern

Thursday 26 June 2008

I finished my Simply Cable socks, but sadly no way to post a picture. I knit them in Dream In Color Smooshy Cocoa Kiss. They were for a friend and I've already given them to her.

Wednesday 25 June 2008

Speedway's are completed!

I finished my Speedways! I really enjoyed knitting this pattern! I love the scalloped tops! Now I am off to finish my Celebration Stole!

Some June Socks...

Pattern: Speedway Socks by Anni Yarn: Zen Yarn Garden Bamboolicious Yarn Needles: Knitpick Harmony 2.25mm Started: June 13, 2008 Completed: June 18, 2008.

I really love this pattern - then I started the Rainy Day socks too!

Rainforest Socks - Upside Down

Here are my completed Rainforest Socks. Of course they're upside down, but they're having fun anyway. Everyone thinks they're wonderful and I've had several people hinting that they'd love to have them - but they're mine! I waited quite a while to find a pattern that would work with this yarn, and I think that the Rainforest pattern was perfect.

Unfortunately, since it's 100° again today these socks will now go in the drawer and wait patiently for fall.

As usual, these are toe-up, magic loop on a size 1 needle.
Schoeller + Stahl Fortissima Colori Socka Color yarn in color 1776

Thanks Anni for another great pattern!

Elegance Socks for June

Yes, that's the pattern I've picked for June. The pattern is beautiful, and the socks are so tight and nice.

Sunday 22 June 2008

At last I finished the Simply Cable Socks. I loved the pattern, but I am a very slow knitter. I used Trekking Ombre 100. The colours are very autumn. In fact, too autumn for me, but they will make a nice present. yvonnep

I"ve been MIA

Been busy with sock wars III but I'm done now, had to forfit b/c of wrist injury, dang it...but I got my socks knit. Wrist is feeling a bit better now, it just flares up sometimes. So I'm looking forward to July's pattern(s). Nice socks y'all - I have been checking the site, just not knitting anything from it for a while.

June - Rainforest

Pattern: Rainforest
Yarn: Pagewood Farm Chugiak Hand Dyed Sock Yarn - Rainbow
Needles: US 1 (2.5mm)

I really enjoyed knitting this pattern... I think these look more like a rainbow.

May day socks in june

I finished my May day socks today. Great pattern, very nice result with self striping yarn! I will use this pattern again, for sure.
For these socks I used Opal wool/cotton, nld 2,5.

Simply Cables Half Done

Last night I finished the first sock of my Simply Cables. I had hoped to have the pair done by now, but for almost two weeks my entire household has been laid low by an especially vicious strain of the common cold. If nothing else goes wrong, I should be able to finish the second sock by month end. I really like the finished pattern, although I do not much like working the cables with such skinny yarn and tiny needles.

Thursday 19 June 2008

All the socks look great!

Sadly, I have been swamped with work and kid things and haven't had a chance to do any myself, but I love looking at all the beautiful socks everyone else has been knitting! :)

speedway to the finish line

i finished the speedway about a week ago but it is the rainy season and it was gray but hot so i couldn't take any pictures. this was a fun and fast pattern and im sure i will do it again. i used posh yarn that was delicious and so soft.

Simply Cables Done!!

Look I finaly finished March's socks. These are for the lady who does my pedicures. She is always saying her feet are cold and wants long socks in earth tones. Now I will have to make me a pair out of March's yarn Anni sent. Off to find something else to knit while waiting for July.

Rain forest for June

YAY! I made it this month with a sock, I'm leaving on Sunday and won't return till after the first of July(no internet either)so was afraid I would miss it again.

Pattern: Rain forest
Yarn: Lisa Souza in Emerald City
Needles: Size 1 for the cuff
Size 2 for the rest

Got Guage?

Great Guage Tip! This is one of those things you read and then do the duh! "I could a had a V-8" forehead slap. This is so kewl. For those of us who actually swatch....since knitting in the round is slightly different gauge than knitting flat...cast on about 60 stitches, join with out twisting, and devide among 3 needles...each of a different size. Knit the first section with a size 1 needle, second section with a size 2 needle and third section with a size 3 needle. You will have your gauge in the round for that yarn with 3 different sized needles. How kewl is that?. Knit a good 4 inches for your swatch. You may want to wash it and block it before measuring it to insure a great fitting sock. This is easier than knitting 3 swatches. I cannot take credit for this as I KNOW I read it somewhere. Just sorry I cannot remember who is due this credit.

May Day socks for June

I really like these socks. It's difficult to find a pattern that works with self-patterning yarn, but I think this is a good example of the pattern & the yarn working together.

The yarn is Regia Silk, which my daughter bought me for Mother's Day. I think she's hoping that she'll get the socks, but she's going to be disappointed!

I used 2 x 2.5mm circulars and made the larger size.

The only change I made was to reduce the sole to 30 stitches because I like the foot fit quite closely.
Thanks again for all the great patterns.

Yummy Yarn for Rainforest Sock

Blogger and I continue to have issues with saving pictures. I am hoping that the "Yummy" yarn that I chose for rainforest will show.

Sunday 15 June 2008

Welcome to June

I'm sorry this post is a day late but weekends always get insanely busy especially this weekend as I've been working on two design proposals due today.

This month there will be no new sock design. The reason is that I've just been too busy coming up with new designs for magazine and a book submission. That's all top secret and I've got some designs accepted for magazine publication and some which I'm still waiting to hear about. all very exciting. But it's been a tough month.

So instead this month I'm offering two of my old patterns which have not been used for Sockamania before, Rainforest and Speedway. I'll post the patterns to the Google group in a minute. For the knitalong prize draw this month you can knit either the Rainforest or Speedway pattern or any old Sockamania patterns that you've either not managed to finish (chance to get those 2nd socks done) or choose a pattern you've not even had time to start on or fancy knitting again.

Also we're not taking on any new members this month as we're having a bit of a spring clean. Any members who're not active or who have never posted will be deleted. Anyone who's not accepted their Google invite will be deleted. Don't worry if you're an active member or someone who posts occasionally you'll still be allowed to continue your membership. If we delete you by mistake just let us know.

I'll do all outstanding prize draws this evening.

Happy knitting,

Anni

This was written on 2nd June but I'm making it a 'sticky' for a week or so so that everyone sees it.

June Progress Report

I have started my Celebration Stole. I like the way it is knitting up. Still on the first repeat on the first half. I don't know if it will be finished in time for the drawing.
I chose to do the Speedway Socks. I love this pattern! It is knitting quickly. The pattern is easy to memorize, and it is fun to watch the self-striping yarn work up in this pattern. These socks will be finished in no time at all!

mistake

for those of you who saw this post with flowers and that funny goat picture , i simply want to say it was meant to appear in my blog. Sorry for that mistake, i feel so silly.

Rainforest Socks Upside Down

As usual, I knit my socks toe-up. The Rainforest pattern works fine when knit upside down, except - and I just discovered this - the rainforest effect is upside down! I've had this yarn for a while and have been looking for a pattern that would allow the stripes to show but still have some visual interest. The Rainforest pattern reminded me of fireworks, so it seemed perfect.

I knit along, trying on my sock as it grew, and loved it. Unfortunately, I just discovered that while the pattern looks like fireworks coming down while I'm looking at my toes, once the sock is made and on my foot, it will look like the fireworks are going up!

Apparently it doesn't bother me enough to frog the whole thing, though, because I kept knitting. The pattern is so easy to do and I like the effect, even if I did it upside down.

Sunday 8 June 2008

I only feel mixed up.

Yes, I know it's June, but I finally started my May Day socks. I hope I get them finished before July, but I'm not counting on it. :-)

Dave

Speedway pattern...

I've chosen the Speedway pattern for my June socks. I'm casting on as I write...using Tofutsies, a lavender color from their limited edition collection. Ok, here I go...

Another first time post...

I truly love Anni's patterns, they're marvelous. I made the Simply Cable socks for my daughter's birthday, unfortunately I don't have a digital camera. I alway keep a pair of socks OTN and I would hate to be removed from the group because I haven't posted. But rules are rules and I would understand.

Celebration Stole Completed

Here it is, my Celebration Stole finished. I put everything else aside and for the past two weeks devoted my knitting time to this project. I chose KnitPicks Gloss Lace in Celery.

Rainforest Heel ?

For those of you working on the Rainforest socks, where did you start your heel flap? And where do you have the extra 8 (14) stitches? Are you changing where you're starting the extra 8 (14) on the 2nd sock so that they match? Or am I being to picky?

Just curious as to what everyone else is doing.

Thanks,
Carla

MayDay in June

I'm doing the May Day socks that Annie posted last month. I'm using Anni's Intense Green bamboo yarn that I won in the December sock drawing. I have one repeat of the pattern done on toe-up two-at-once. They look like beautiful leaves. They are for my winemaker brother who has size 12 feet, so I'm making the larger size and will be awhile. He will love them, though. I'll post a progress picture when I remember where I stowed the camera.
New Yarn Called My Name

Yes, yes, I did say I was going into my stash for yarn for the Rainforest Socks, but a funny thing happened on the way to the stash. I needed anther skein of yarn to finish off the second sleeve of a sweater. So with due diligence I hurried to my LYS for the same dye lot. Whilst there a beautiful skein of sock yarn called my name, ever so insistently until I had to go over and touch it. After a bit of fondling and deciding that the blue theme to it was "rainforestie" it ended up in the bag with the other skein of yarn. Oh well....a yarn diet is just too hard. I bought something called Yummy from Fibranatura. It is 130 grams/370 yards and is pot dyed. Must finish the sweater before casting on. I have too many UFO's lolling about my house. Show me a spotless house and I'll show you a boring woman or dust is a protective coating for furniture :) 'til later, Debi

Starting Rainforest

Good Morning All,
I'm a new member as of mid May. I will be making the Rainforest socks with the new Bamboo sock yarn I just received from my order with Anni. Thank you for such quick service. Will check in later with pictures.

Simply Cables for June

This is my first time actually knitting with the group, although I was signed up at the end of February. I have completed one leg repeat so far, and am liking the stitch pattern very much, although it has been awhile since I have done cabling, and never before with such skinny yarn.

Simply Cables - Help please!

I need some advice from someone with more sock knitting experience than me! This will only be my 4th pair of socks and I'd like to make these for my 3yo ds - anyone got any tips on how to scale the pattern down?

Am I right in assuming the pattern is over 6 stitches, so as long as I make my CO a multiple of 6, it will work?

Does this make sense?

Thanks!

Not as Active as I'd Like to Be...

I guess the last time I posted was for the Ripples socks...Which I am still working on. And I am amazed just how patient my mom is about them...she only mentions them every OTHER month now :).

I was struck down from some tendon damage and have had to scale back any and all knitting/crocheting/handwriting--you name it, if it's associated with my arm, it's not high on the activity list...even my blog posting has suffered.

I thoroughly enjoy watching others post their interpretations of Anni's patterns, so I hope not to get booted. As slow and steady still at least finishes the race, I hope to get through all of the patterns...some day.

Looking forward to Rainforest Socks

Hiya, I just signed up for this group in mid-May, but I was too late to start with the May knit-along. This will be my second pair of socks ever. My first pair is still on the needles, but I hope to be done with them in the next day or so.

I've chosen the Rainforest socks because I have some green/olive/blue sock yarn that I think will go with the pattern. I may need to increase the stitch count a bit though b/c I have big ankles and wide feet. We'll have to see how I do.

I'm excited to see what everyone else makes!

Question on Rain forest socks : )

Hey everyone!

Well after much debating over the pretty patterns for this month I decided on the Rain forest socks, but now I'm stuck : )

I'm a little confused on how to get the socks started. After you CO on your sts what is the 26 pattern repeat you work? I'm thinking you work the chart but not sure about the twice part...then go into the K1 etc and then work the chart 6 more?

Thank you
dustinac

been away for awhile

Well the last socks I completed were the simply cables. Everyones socks look fantastic! I'm still 'alive' in sockwars, & thats one reason I've not been in touch here. I'm gonna have to sit this mo. out too b/c I have too many projects otn & really need to finish them so I can knit my socks again. Thanks for all the dresign work Anni!!! &n to those who help out with the site & google too, don't know your names but I know you deserve a thanks too.
I'm a new memeber and I'm hoping to make one the new patterns with the yarn I just received from you. Such fast service, I just received it yesterday. Bamboo sock yarn in shades of blue. Thank you for sharing your patterns. Sue

Summer of Socks is coming!

I am another member who hasn't yet completed a sock!

I am a full-time student, old enough to be the mother of most of my fellow students! Being twice as old as them, I feel I need to work twice as hard to get top results - but if I land an interesting job afterwards it will be worth it. However, it does eat into my knitting time! After today's exam, though, summer holidays begin.

It would be a shame to be eliminated from the group just as I begin to have time to knit socks! I AM here, and have been enjoying seeing what others are doing with these patterns!

Another first time post.

I am new to the group and just printed off the two socks for June...WoW! They are both just beautiful! I believe Rainforest will be my first sock to knit with this group....going to go to my stash right now and it will probably be either a Tofootsies or a Sockotta choice for these socks. So glad to be part of this group.

Monday 2 June 2008

Decisions Decisions!

I know exactly which yarn I want to use this month, all I have to decide is whether to make speedway or rainforest as I think the yarn will work in both. This may take some time!

silent member

Hi ,
i´m a silent member so far, because i could not show my first sockamania socks....still working on the simple cables.....knitting time is so little, knitting speed is very low.....and my english is "eingerostet", dont know the word.
so, im would be glad not to be delated, as i try my best to show something at the end of june, because then i will have two weeks off with more time to knit!!

love to everyone
Tina

Another first time poster

I'm also a first-time poster. I haven't gotten to the socks yet because I'm trying to wrap up a few old projects that've been hanging around the house. Particularly the umpteen baby gifts I can't seem to finish! I am absolutely in love with both of the patterns posted today and they will definitely be on my list as soon as a few things manage to get cast off!

a little behind!

i've not completed my celebration socks.........mainly because i'm still working on Simply Cables!!
both socks are at this point.......trying to decide whether to make them longer or start the heel :)

Can't wait to start

Good morning,
I've gotten both patterns of the 'net this morning and the yarn is in my stash. I'm ready to go. I've only done a couple of your patterns and loved them. I can't wait to start. This is my month!
Thanks for the lovely patterns

Working away at the Celebration Stole

Hey everyone. I haven't been that good about keeping up with the socks, but I when I saw the Celebration Stole pattern, I had to cast on. I'm on the fourth repeat and am really enjoying the knit. I'm using some Scoutswag laceweight in a custom colorway I had dyed a year or so ago. It's coming out fantastic! Here's a peek.

First time poster

This is my first time posting as a fairly new member. I have not been able to complete a pair of socks yet with this group but do hope to do so soon. I have so enjoyed the inspiration from those who have posted their socks and would very much like to stay a member. I have not posted because I did not have a sock to show off! I have recently discovered the joy of making socks but am still catching up on a few that I had started. Thanks for letting me be a part of the group.

Just in the nick of time, again

This is the second month that I'm cutting it down to mere minutes left of the day to post. Here are my celebration socks. They are knit using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in the Somerset colorway. I love them. The heel is so beautiful. Anni, thanks for another fabulous pattern.

Closing Celebrations

Here are my Opal celebrations squeezing in under the deadline. I opted to knit a little more of the toes in hopes to keep them warmer. Really pretty pattern, but a little difficult for start and stop project while on the bus commute. Great results! thanks Anni
