Valentine socks done

Finished them yesterday but they were too wet to put on and the detail wasn't showing up on the blockers. Socks are longer than I normally wear but then again after I deliever I am always cold so these will be wonderful in the hospital. I thought about wearing them during delievery but thought maybe it would be better to put them on after the baby is here to keep me warm. lol I am using one of Anni's sock yarns. I love how it feels. The pattern was quick and easy, I didn't to the opening in the back with laced up ribbon, I don't have good luck with ribbon and I don't have the legs for the long beautiful socks. lol They are a little loose so I will need to see if I can shrink them a little without felting them. Great pattern Thanks. Now do I have this baby before the next pattern comes out or after. lol I am ready now!

My Victorian Valentine Stockings

And here it is:

This is probably the prettiest sock I've every made. I'm not usually the type of knitter to show my latest project to complete strangers, but, I must confess, a lot of people in Florida saw this sock before it showed up here!

I had every intention of having the pattern all ready to go before my husband and I left for Florida for his fifth, and hopefully final, back surgery. However, I discovered about a million errors in the pattern when I started the second sock. I was still fixing errors last night!! So, if you find something wrong, don't hesitate to let me know! It has to be the result of all the extra events that were going on last month. It's a shock to me that I was even able to get them done, let alone create the pattern for them. So if I can make them with all the stuff I had going on they must make up pretty fast!

The heart design is simple and easy to memorize. The stocking is knit toe up with a short row heel (an inserted heel works great also for all of you who enjoyed that new heel method!). The lace edging at the top is knit in short 8 row repeats and then sewn on last leaving a "hole" so that your leg fits into the sock.

I used Yarn Addict Anni's fingering (sock) weight yarn called Bambino. It is a gorgeous merino/bamboo blend yarn with just a hint of glossy shine. ***(Her web site is accessable from the side bar.)*** Go and check out all of the luscious yarns she has available!!! The double sided satin ribbon is the 5/8 inch width size.

So, the pattern will be at the Google group site in just a few minutes. Since February is a little short and this stocking is a little long I will extend the deadline to post your completed stocking to March 5th. However, March's sock pattern will still be posted March 1st and the deadline for it will be the end of the month.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!! and Happy Knitting!!

Finished!

I have them finished now.  They are on my feet as I write.  I went down a needle size and knitted them on 2's because my feet are little.  the last pair that I knit fit me, but they're a tad loose and I like my socks, especially my warm ones, to be snug.  I was knitting these during lunch, and the teachers that I work with were checking the sock status every day.  Thank you, Tama, for a beautiful pattern for my first pair of Sockamania socks, and my third pair of socks in all.

Snowy Winter's Eve socks

Hi all,
I don't have a picture yet, as I am not yet finished my second sock. I only joined the club last week, and I thought I'd attempt the January pattern, knowing that I wouldn't get it in by the end of the month. This was my first attempt at colorwork, and I had a little trouble getting the tension right at first. But the first sock came out fine, albeit slightly tight just under the cuff, and I was able to adjust the tension for the second sock. All in all, a success so far, and I learned something new. I can't wait to show you my picture, and to get started on my Feb. socks.

Winter Socks

I didn't have the correct weight yarn in my stash to do these socks so I altered the pattern for fingering/4 ply weight yarn. The white is some yarn that I've had for some time. The blue is called Stormy Skies by Flutterby Creations.

I wasn't too sure about the stranded colour work when I first got the pattern. I really struggle to get the tension right. However, I did like the snowflake on the heel flap and thought that was a lovely design element. I knit these for my husband and he likes how they came out.

Thanks go to Tama for the pattern. I'm looking forward to next month's challenge ;)

Snowy Winters Eve Sock

Whew; finished in the nick of time. This is my first stranded project and I can actually get them on! I've heard that some people do stranded projects inside out to keep it neater so I may try that next time. The color is a little more muted than the picture shows but they're both really nice shades that go together well. Not too wintery though, maybe more fall.

Having a deadline is forcing me to knit faster, which is a good thing. I tend to be really pokey about getting my projects done
yarn: Cascade Yarns Boullicine Dolly (not sure if this is classified as an actual sock yarn but it got the gauge and better colors for the project than the regular sock yarn at my lys)
needle: size three

Overall, fun pattern to do and easier than it looks

Slow

Well, I started them but I seriously doubt that they will be done. I have just turned the heels and am working on the star on the first sock. Don't think I have enough time to finish the stars, let alone do the leg.
I'll post when they are done sometime in Feb.
Maybe next month will be better.

Ooopsss

I almost forgot :-$ I have shown you a picture of the 1 sock, but not of the completed pair. Here it is:

They have already been worn several times as Dylan is very pleased with them.

Again Tama thanks for a great design!

Linda
edit: it's the Outdoorsmen pattern!

Eve's Snowy Winter Eve Socks!

No pun intended, but my little girl Eve got them. I just managed to get some pictures of them before she went to school this morning. I finished them last night and new socks just have to be worn inmediately ;-).
The were done in online 4-ply Dark blue and offwhite. 56 sts. This was the first and probably the last time that I have done colourwork. I really do not understand how people can like this! Don't get me wrong, I love the socks and the pattern and the way they turned out. I just hated knitting them. The 2 threads, ever searching for the right tension (especially since I knite very tight to start with), was nearly enough to drive me batty ;-). But I stuck to it and they are finished and my little girl has a new pair of socks.
Tama thanks for the pattern and the challenge!

January socks

I wasn't going to start until Feb but decided that I would go ahead and try to get these finished in time. That is still up in the air.
I am doing them toe up and am just ready to start doing the star on the heel. Wish me luck.

No pics as the camera is at home and I am at the store. Could use my cell phone but those pics are usually not that good (at least when I take them. LOL)

Saturday, 23 January 2010

I thought I would post a picture of my sock in progress. I am just finished with the heel and gusset. I plan to rip it out after posting it. I mistakenly bought worsted weight yarn so it is too heavy. I also am not very good at color work. I don't know how to space the yarn so the white stitches don't disappear when I put the sock on. I don't like all the yarn inside the sock. And it is very difficult to put on. So...I plan to buy a book, Color Knitting, when it comes out and learn how to do color work. I sure did like the color patterns knitted into the sock. I only wish I knew the correct techniques to make it work.

Snowy Winter's Eve Modified

US1 Deborah Norville Serenity. I didn't have any sport weight yarn so I increased the number of stitches to knit in fingering weight. I've never knitted 2 colors at once, I really struggled and when I final tried it on, it was too tight so I ripped 2 times and decided I'm only going to do the scallop cuff and toe and snowflake heel. When I got to the heel I rip back so many times my yarn got frayed so I ripped back completely and decided to go with the CC heel and purled the snowflake pattern. I barely got them over my heel for the photo but they fit MIL fine so their hers.

I really like the scallop cuff and toes pattern, it really makes the contrasting look like it was part of the sock. I'm starting my 2nd pair now, it gives me a chance to practice knitting 2 strands of yarn without stressing me out. I really like how the scallop pattern make the contrasting color blending into the main color.

Thank you Tama, for the introduction to 2 color knitting. I hope to do better next time.

January Socks!

I didn't believe it when Tama said so, but these WERE a pretty quick and easy knit, despite juggling four balls or yarn for two at a time toe ups. I love them and will make them again. Yarn is Knitpicks Stroll Sport in clematis and hollyberry. I ordered another colorway too because I couldn't decide, and will make them also. Thanks, Tama, for another great pattern!

Yarn

This is the yarn I chose from Anni's shop. Really love the color.
I want to make a shawl out of it for the chilly nights in summer.
Thanks Anni and Tama!!

January 2010 Snowflake Socks Completed

Snow is expected tonight and tomorrow so a perfect time for the Snowflake Socks. I chose Louet Gems merino sport in a purple and white. I knew I would not have enough of one color to complete the socks, so I chose to reverse them -- purple/white and white/purple. My needle sizes were #2 for the ankle and #1 for the foot. Perfect fit.

My second pair for 2010

Hello,

While the last snow is melting away overhere I finished my snowflake socks for January.

Again a perfect fit. I used Regia 6-ply in black and white. I love the effect on the cuff and the toe. Thanks again Tama. And now I'll go through my stash wondering what I'm going to cast on while waiting for the February pattern. (Also love the new background).

Groetjes and have a nice day, Mirella

In again

I started on this blog jurney when Annie originated it. I missed very few of her patterns. Love them all.
My DIL and I opened a pet bakery here in town in Nov and I have not had time to keep up. We started renovations on the building in Aug and worked very hard.
Hopefully I will have time again to do socks. I probably won't start until Feb.
Thanks for taking this over for Annie.

Judy

...my "really snowy here" socks...

Done! I bought the yarn last Tuesday, and cast on late that night, and they were done on Sunday. Quick and fun. Yarn: DSA sterk , 40%alpakka,40%merinowool,20%nylon. 50grams=137meters.

Needles: circular 3mm (magic loop, both at the same time) for the plain knitting, DPN's, 4mm,(one by one) for the colourwork.

Gauge: 22 sts=10cm for the fairisle, 26sts=10cm on 3mm for the foot. And they are still too small for me...

Really cute pattern, and the yarn is so soft!
I have a plan to knit both mittens and a hat to go with this, think it will be a great giftset.

Thanks again for a great pattern, Tama:-)

I have been very busy and haven't been able to knit the last few socks. I did knit two pairs of outdoorsman socks-one for my husband and one for me. The yarn is Patons Kroy Socks in the cadet colors. They are warm and comfy. I have two projects in the works-a sweater and a purse. So I don't know if I will get to the socks for January. Thanks for the patterns!
