17 May socks PFFFEEEWWW

Hello,

This was a level up for me. I was used to knitting with two colors. And knitting with three isn't all that different but I lost a lot of time untangeling the yarn. I used Trekking Sport. The red was a little to bright and after I saw the blue socks I thought let's change the colors for the second sock, (also a good remedy against my second sock syndrom) I also used 2,75 mm because my ankles are a little larger than mentioned in the pattern. Next year we plan a holiday to Norway, so I know what wille be in my backpack.

Thanks for the pattern, love the result, Mirella (Netherlands)

Finally Rollercoasters :)

I've had a number of other projects going on, and just finally finished my Rollercoaster socks. I totally adore how these fit - the gentle ribs make them super comfy and stretchy. I used Dream in Color Smooshy Sock yarn in color Flamingo Pie. I'm now casting on the lace diamonds socks, but decided on a picot cast-on for additional cuteness :)

Saturday 23 May 2009

I finished March's Rollercoaster Socks a few days ago. I have been recuperating from knee replacement surgery and couldn't get motivated to concentrate on knitting. With pain medicine and physical therapy, I didn't have the energy.

I used Bernat sox yarn in color 42117. The colorway was blues and browns. The socks are for my husband so they are longer than normal. He asked that I knit him a pair so I complied. I am pleased he wants handknit socks.

17 May socks in blue

While I love to do color work, I've never tried using three colors. And now I know why - it's hard!

I had every intention of doing the socks as pictured (except toe up), but discovered that working with three colors is nearly impossible for me when I'm in a car (we took a long car trip to see King Tut). So I decided to do the foot plain and save the three colors for home.

The two color work went well; but when I got to the three color section I froze and just did some stripes at the cuff. For the second sock, I got up the courage to do the three colors. As it was 17 May when I got to that point, I must have had the spirit of Norway in me, because I did it! It's not my prettiest or tidiest work, but I actually did it (and I can even get it on).

Thanks for a beautiful and challenging pattern Anni.

I've just uploaded a letter on the Google group with a 10% discount code that all Sockamania members can use in my new online shop. Please note that this discount is only valid on orders from my new shop, www.yarnaddict.co.uk, and not my Etsy shop. I'll be adding more yarns to the shop over the next couple of weeks.

To find the discount code, log in to the Sockamania google group and download the 'discount voucher' document.

Why not download and get started on the 17 May socks while you're there.

Happy knitting,

Sorry I forgot & new pattern

Huge apologies. I completely forgot about posting the May pattern. On Friday I was extremely busy and was out most of the day and only checked in online very quickly. Then Saturday was my husband's birthday and I was busy baking a birthday cake and cooking a birthday meal etc. Yesterday we had friends around all day and evening and I didn't go online at all and I've just remembered now that I've not posted the pattern.

The pattern is being uploaded to the Sockamania Google group as I write this. Huge apologies for making you all wait.

Here are the socks:The inspiration for this month's socks came from Norway's national day, 17 May, which is a huge celebration in Norway. Last year was my first time in Norway to celebrate 17 May since 1989 and it was freezing and some places even had some snow, which is very unusual for May. So for the socks i decided to combine the Norwegian flag and a snowflake with a traditional Norwegian 'fair isle' pattern. Some of the pattern rows include 3 different colours which is not easy. If you want you can drop the blue colour and knit those stitches white instead. Or make the socks easier by just using the rows on the chart that has 2 colours per row, ie drop the flag and snowflake rows. Or, if stranded colourwork fills you with fear, why not knit the stripes instead? Any socks with any combination of patterns from these socks will be accepted in teh monthly draw. The main thing is to have fun and challenge yourself as much as you wish. The Norwegian flag can be replaced by the snowflake motif on the same rows by the way.

All clear as mud? If you have any questions please ask them here on the blog and I'll check in regularly. All pop over to my blog to ask me questions.

Now to the April winners, well done to everyone who completed their socks. I loved seeing them all. The winners are.....
