Done!

...and in time this month... These were fun and fast. As you can see, I changed the pattern a little bit...doing a row of leaves up the ffront and up the back, with 3 purl-8 knit-3 purl stitches at both sides...
They weren't supposed to fit me, but they do...I'm having a hard time figuring out when to start increasing/heels on toe-up socks.
Yarn: Silja from Gjestal, 80%wool/20%nylon
Needles: 2.5mm circular
Done toe-up, two-at-a-time, magic-loop.
Thanks again for a great pattern, Anni:-)
Have a lovely summer- I'm off to turn some hay;-)

Yippy new socks!

Yarn 4 Socks Club

Very exciting news. I'm going to be the August yarn dyer and designer for Yarn 4 Socks Club. I've known about this for quite a while obviously but the August club is now listed and you can purchase your spot. The base yarn arrived today and is a gorgeous blend I've not had in stock for a couple of months. So I'm really looking forward to using it again. The socks will be otn this weekend. I've not quite decided on the final pattern yet but I've got some great runner ups. I've also been thinking colours and will hopefully be playing with yarn this weekend to try to narrow down the colour choices for the yarn. All in all it should be a great month so if you want to make sure you don't miss out on the fun, join now.

Have a nice weekend,

Anni x

Lazy Leaves Socks

They are done. I was going to make these with some of my stash yarn in a burnt redish color, thinking more of the Fall, but my DD said she wanted a pair with her sock yarn and it MUST have some green. She felt the brown was for the branches and the green for the leave, though this picture doesn't to it justice. DD likes her socks very short, which helped me out sense I didn't see the correction until I was almost done with the second sock. ha ha Then as I was sitting here knitting and finishing up the heal ah ha just a few rows and I will be done(Very tired and want a nap) it was then I discovered that I did the heal of this sock in just a straight st st! OH MY! they don't match! DD thought it was cool that way and told me to leave it. As tired as I was and still am, I abliged. LOL These were very fun. Next pair I make from this pattern will be with the corrections. :)

Lazy Leaves in Green Dream

Since the pattern was leaves, I thought it would be fitting to make the socks with my "Green Dream" yarn from Anni. They turned out beautifully, even with my summer brain.

Love the pattern, love the yarn; but these poor socks must now join the other wool socks in the drawer because it's 100 F/37.8 C here today (and for the next several months).
"Green Dream" yarn from Anni (superwash merino/polyamide) with size 2 needles.

Pattern error

I had an e-mail this morning alerting me to an error in the Lazy Leaves pattern. I type up the pattern in A5 format for the Sock Variety Club first then I copy and paste it into an A4 format and convert it to pdf for Sockamania. The error occured in converting the pattern to A4. I didn't copy correctly the first paragraph for the foot. I've just uploaded the correct pattern to the Google group.

But the first paragraph for the foot should read:
K5, p1, work chart once, p1, k5. Work set up chart once first, then work main chart. Work until the foot measures 4in/10cm shorter than the desired total foot length.

Sorry for any confusion it's caused and thank you to Susi for spotting it and letting me know.

Good luck and happy knitting,

Anni

Lazy Leaves Completed

Another nice, easy pattern. I chose to work top down, which required reading the pattern backwards.

Lacy Diamond

Here are my Lacy Diamonds; I used Opal Petticoat Cotton for these. I just love the way they turned out!! The colors are so perfect for spring.

I love the June sock pattern! I've never done a pair of toe-up socks before but I just have to make these! I have some yarn I dyed in a soft green that will be perfect for them. I'm off to experiment with toe-up cast ons... Steph

It occurred to me when I saw the post with the June socks, that I never posted my April socks.

Lacy Diamonds Socks

I used Socks that Rock lightweight in the Spring Fling colorway. This was a great pattern! I'm looking forward to knitting the June socks, too.

done!...but not in time...

The socks are done..with a little cheating...turned out I didn't have any solid red or blue at all! I tried the starpattern first, but it looked awful! I'm not good with three colours. It might have helped if I had used DPN's instead of insisting on doing both at the same time with magic loop...
The second pattern went well, the stripes too. The heel looks awful. Shortrow-heels are not my favourite... but I got past it...and then I cheated again...making the rest of the sock in the variegated yarn. I was sitting at Dragseidet, waiting for the big outdoor play, and had about an hour Saturday, and another hour Sunday, and knitting with six balls of yarn turned in to a real mess!!!, So I finished with only the variegated blue. The yarn is too messy to see the pattern properly- I might knit these again later in a more suitable yarn.
And this is as far as I got on Sunday night- only the toes left, they were done Monday... A fun knit, and pretty quick, started on Tuesday last week, so less than a week.

Last month I was lucky enough to win the prize! I forgot to take a photo of my prizeyarn, though... It's so lovely! Bronze sockyarn, really really soft and beautiful colours! Thanks, Anni, I'm looking forward to making something out of it!!!
Marit

Added June 3rd: Yes, that's little squares on the top, I had three colours and alternated those: 1 st with A, 2 st with B, 3 st with C, 4st with A, 3st with C, 2st with B around for three rounds. Then changed: 1st with C, 2st with A, 3st with B, 4st withC, 3st with B, 2st with A for three rounds. Then: 1st with B, 2st with C, 3 st with A, 4st with B, 3st with A, 2 st with C around for three rounds. The pattern looks like a ladder. It got rather tight, so I should have knitted it on DPN's, I think it's easier to control the tension then.

17 May socks PFFFEEEWWW

Hello,

This was a level up for me. I was used to knitting with two colors. And knitting with three isn't all that different but I lost a lot of time untangeling the yarn. I used Trekking Sport. The red was a little to bright and after I saw the blue socks I thought let's change the colors for the second sock, (also a good remedy against my second sock syndrom) I also used 2,75 mm because my ankles are a little larger than mentioned in the pattern. Next year we plan a holiday to Norway, so I know what wille be in my backpack.

Thanks for the pattern, love the result, Mirella (Netherlands)

Finally Rollercoasters :)

I've had a number of other projects going on, and just finally finished my Rollercoaster socks. I totally adore how these fit - the gentle ribs make them super comfy and stretchy. I used Dream in Color Smooshy Sock yarn in color Flamingo Pie. I'm now casting on the lace diamonds socks, but decided on a picot cast-on for additional cuteness :)

Saturday, 23 May 2009

I finished March's Rollercoaster Socks a few days ago. I have been recuperating from knee replacement surgery and couldn't get motivated to concentrate on knitting. With pain medicine and physical therapy, I didn't have the energy.

I used Bernat sox yarn in color 42117. The colorway was blues and browns. The socks are for my husband so they are longer than normal. He asked that I knit him a pair so I complied. I am pleased he wants handknit socks.

17 May socks in blue

While I love to do color work, I've never tried using three colors. And now I know why - it's hard!

I had every intention of doing the socks as pictured (except toe up), but discovered that working with three colors is nearly impossible for me when I'm in a car (we took a long car trip to see King Tut). So I decided to do the foot plain and save the three colors for home.

The two color work went well; but when I got to the three color section I froze and just did some stripes at the cuff. For the second sock, I got up the courage to do the three colors. As it was 17 May when I got to that point, I must have had the spirit of Norway in me, because I did it! It's not my prettiest or tidiest work, but I actually did it (and I can even get it on).

Thanks for a beautiful and challenging pattern Anni.

Discount Voucher

I've just uploaded a letter on the Google group with a 10% discount code that all Sockamania members can use in my new online shop. Please note that this discount is only valid on orders from my new shop, www.yarnaddict.co.uk, and not my Etsy shop. I'll be adding more yarns to the shop over the next couple of weeks.

To find the discount code, log in to the Sockamania google group and download the 'discount voucher' document.

Why not download and get started on the 17 May socks while you're there.

Happy knitting,

Sorry I forgot & new pattern

Huge apologies. I completely forgot about posting the May pattern. On Friday I was extremely busy and was out most of the day and only checked in online very quickly. Then Saturday was my husband's birthday and I was busy baking a birthday cake and cooking a birthday meal etc. Yesterday we had friends around all day and evening and I didn't go online at all and I've just remembered now that I've not posted the pattern.

The pattern is being uploaded to the Sockamania Google group as I write this. Huge apologies for making you all wait.

Here are the socks:The inspiration for this month's socks came from Norway's national day, 17 May, which is a huge celebration in Norway. Last year was my first time in Norway to celebrate 17 May since 1989 and it was freezing and some places even had some snow, which is very unusual for May. So for the socks i decided to combine the Norwegian flag and a snowflake with a traditional Norwegian 'fair isle' pattern. Some of the pattern rows include 3 different colours which is not easy. If you want you can drop the blue colour and knit those stitches white instead. Or make the socks easier by just using the rows on the chart that has 2 colours per row, ie drop the flag and snowflake rows. Or, if stranded colourwork fills you with fear, why not knit the stripes instead? Any socks with any combination of patterns from these socks will be accepted in teh monthly draw. The main thing is to have fun and challenge yourself as much as you wish. The Norwegian flag can be replaced by the snowflake motif on the same rows by the way.

All clear as mud? If you have any questions please ask them here on the blog and I'll check in regularly. All pop over to my blog to ask me questions.

Now to the April winners, well done to everyone who completed their socks. I loved seeing them all. The winners are.....

Marit and Not just a Mom
Please e-mail me on yarnaddictAThotmail.co.uk with your choice of prize yarn from my shop and address.

Lacy Diamonds are complete!

This was a fun to knit pattern! I used Berroco Sox metallic, and they really sparkle!

Thanks Anni.

Sylvia

Done, but no photo;-(

Then it's the end of the month- again! Hard to believe we are almost in May!

April's Lacy Diamonds are done, but this stupid computer of mine has decided not to upload any photos, so no picture, unfortunately. They were knitted in Senja sockyarn from Gjestal, I did two-at-a-time, magic loop, on 2.5mm needles. Colour: purple.

The pattern was fun and easy to memorize, and the socks are really pretty. Thanks again, Anni!

Now I'm waiting for May's Challenge....the pc still allows me to download patterns and read blogs...;-)

Have a lovely May, all of you. It's Spring here in Western Norway....

3 Months of Socks

I have been doing my monthly socks, I just haven't been taking pictures and posting. So here goes, 3 months worth.

I'l start with April since that is the month we are in. These were made for a friend and I have to deliver them today so I had to hurry and get a photo of them. They are done in SockEase on a size one needle. No pattern on the instep.

Next up is March. They are Wildfoote done on size 2 needles. These were started in a sock class that I taught.

And last is Feb socks. The yarn did not do justice to the pattern but it is a special yarn that I just *HAD* to use. It is NewZealand possum and merino. It feels lusciously soft to the hand and to the foot. I love it but doubt that I will buy anymore as it cost $36 for the pair of socks. It is ok for an oddity but not for regular buy. Besides, I am not sure how it will wear. The heel is already pilling some. Well, not really pilling, but the gray possum fiber is coming out, when I take them off there is always bits of gray fuzz on them that just lifts right off.

Hopefully May's will be done on time and posted.

Happy spring to all.

Ta...Judy

Lovely Lacey Diamonds

This was a great pattern. I just love a sock that looks REALLY difficult but is super easy. I used some Lorna's Laces yarn and followed the pattern exactly--I know......big shock. Once in a while I follow the pattern. I couldn't help it, I really loved this one.

I also finished the February sock. It took longer because, yep you guessed it, I altered the pattern and made them knee length (my daughter is into knee length, and longer, socks and they are for her). That meant increasing the stitches at the calf and working another pattern repeat. This worked out really good for me because I was able to use ALL of the yarn instead of having "leftovers" to try to make into something else later.

I really liked this pattern also. I used some of my hand-dyed yarn. They turned out GREAT!

Thanks for the wonderful patterns Anni!

Lacy Diamonds Done

Wow these were fun. I love how they turned out, I will be making more with this pattern. They look complicated but were so easy. Yarn is from Anni that I bought a while back. I love the feel of it. Thanks for another wonderful sock.
