Finished

I finished the pair of Spiraling socks this morning. It took me just over a week all told to knit them. Great pattern, looks awesome, is not complicated and goes quite fast. Thank you Anni!

The yarn is Jitterbug in Copperbeach. Sadly, after one sock and the toe of the other there was a knot. A knot which tied 2 different dye lots of the same colorway. Which means that, even if you can't really tell in the picture, the socks look quite different one from the other. But I like them anyways!

First One Done!

My first August sock is finished, and I've started the ribbing for the second one. I love this pattern, Anni!

Finally Finished Sock One

After many trials and tribulations I have finally completed the first sock. Sock yarn is Elann Esprit colour Caribbean Surf. The recipient is allergic to all animal fibres so we discussed it and decided this would be a good yarn choice. The socks are for my Hogwards Sock Swap pal and she is in Ravenclaw so this is colour we chose. I am not sure how much the pattern shows up. I did do the sock toe up. I have to figure out how to change the heel so I can continue the swirl on a toe up heel with the heel construction I use but that will come when I have more time to think about it. For now I am happy with the result and am finally happy with the yarn so I can hopefully knit the second sock without the adventures of the first.

Waiting on yarn

Since I am remodeling all of my yarn is packed :( I know, but it's a sad, sad fate. So the only thing to do was order more. Someone else was already placing an order so I went in on that. It took her awhile to get it placed and she told me it was placed on Friday. Hopefully I don't have to wait too long for it to come in. I'm going to use solid worsted weight from Knit Picks, but with a different toe and heel color. I think that the pattern will really stand out on a solid, plus I need good winter socks. Oh, and yes, they'll be blue, as seems to be the theme for the month.

Love the pattern

My second try on my first sock is almost to the heel. I had it all complete except for doing the kitchener and it was way, way too big. Since this is yarn that DH bought for me to make me some socks I had to undo it and start all over.
I still have hopes of having these done by the end of the month.
Maybe a picture tomorrow or later.

One down!

I finished my first spiralling sock a bit ago! I really do love how it came out. The sock in general is a little loose, I've been finding that most sock patterns are though, I think maybe my ankles are to thin or my foot is narrower. Either way, it's still fitting ok and it's very pretty. I've already cast on for the second so as not to put it off!

Coming Along... Slowly

This is the second incarnation of Spiralling Sock. The first was coming out too large, so I ripped it and cast on fewer stitches. I was a little concerned that I'd reduced the stitches too much—in order to preserve the heel pattern—but DH assures me it's coming out a good fit for him. Lucky he has slim legs! :)

I've also added more rounds on the leg to make it longer for him.

The yarn is Lana Grossa Mega Boots Stretch in colour #713, and I'm using a 2.5mm circular to knit Magic Loop.

Contrary to most, I'm finding the going much slower than expected. Although I love the way it looks, knitting with the elasticated yarn is driving me nuts! I have three pairs of socks on the needles right now, so I'm flitting between them all to break things up a bit.

Thanks for the pattern, Anni!

Put a Sock in it

Finished!

I finished the August socks on Saturday - they took exactly one week to knit! Thanks for a speedy and fun pattern, Anni!

August Socks Are Done!

Just cast off the second sock :). I loved this pattern. It was easy to remember - great for knitting on my morning commute to work, and I enjoyed knitting with the J. Knits yarn. The colours are some of my favourites and the varigation was great - not too stripey, not too "pooley".
Looking forward to seeing more of the groups' socks - there are some great ideas happening here :).
Cheers, Karin

stripey...

Done! Thanks again, Anni, nice and easy pattern. Yarn: Regia 4fädig jacquard color5273, 75% wool,25%polyamide, 50g/210m- and since these will be for my sister who has smaller feet than me, there is actually yarnleftovers-LOL!
I wanted the stripes to match, so I made sure to start -almost- at the same place on each ball of yarn. Looking forward to September!

Spiralling Socks

I'm making this pretty pattern with my own hand dyed sock yarn, an experiment with Kool Aid from last Summer. It started off blue and yellowy cream but I wasn't impressed by my feeble attempts and plunged the whole lot in strawberry, resulting in the above. I'm really happy with the way it's working for Anni's spirals, subtle yet definitely shaded.
Just to be different I thought I'd have a go at the Magic Loop method too, something I've always wanted to try and I have to say, I think I'm a convert. I've turned the heel, negotiated the gusset and still managed to keep my head above water! Watch out toe, here I come.....

We've got the blues

So, what is it with so many of us working on the spiral sock using shades of blue? My work in progress is made of Koigu P826.

It's my first skein of Koigu, and I'd intended it for me-me-me, but I fear the cuff is going to be a bit big for my ankle, so it may end up a gift. I knew I should have adjusted the pattern when I started, but I don't want to undo it all now.

Size aside, I'm enjoying the pattern a lot and with two five-hour flights next week, I may even finish the pair this month!

New member this month. I'm a law librarian who started knitting just before I started library school four years ago, and socks not too long after that. I love them, but like many, tend to have trouble completing that second one. There's more about me on my regular blog, All-Purpose BiblioBlawg.

Great pattern!

My August sock is going so fast that I'm almost done with the gusset. This is a fun, beautiful pattern, Anni, thank you! I'm using Brown Sheep Wildfoote in Elderberry, and I think these will be done in no time.

Started August's Pattern

I started working on this month's pattern, last Saturday. This is what I had finished at the end of the day. I've worked on them a little more since then and have about another 3 cm complete. I'm really liking the simplicity of the pattern. Its been some time since I knit a sock that was this easy, so I'm loving it. I did, however, change the sizing on the pattern by casting on 76 stitches so that it will be a men's large, instead of a women's medium. As you can probably tell, I also opted to knit them toe up rather than top down as I'm unsure how long I will be able to make the cuff due to the increased size.
Update: After ripping twice due to errors on my part, I'm not going to cast on again, at least not now. I'm just a little frustrated with myself and it usually helps to finish a pair of socks in another pattern and then come back and tackle the one that "got me." This one is all me, not any fault of Anni's pattern. Its beautiful, but I just didn't get the math correct in trying to make it bigger.

Progress

Ok so I tried to do last months socks and it just didn't work out lol. I musta started that first sock five times. It wasn't the pattern, I just didn't like how my toe was coming out...

So here I have started my sock for this month. I really like how simple the pattern is, and it's coming out really nice! I'm using Socks That Rock Lightweight in Sapphire. It's really pretty blues, and some teals. I'm not much of a fan of this yarn though...so many people rave about it but it's harsh on my hands and isn't very soft feeling when knit...maybe I got a bad skein???

Sorry it's blurry, I had a non blurry pic but that didn't show the colors well at all.

Brand new Sockamaniac

Hello all! I joined this KAL in July and actually did knit some on the Serpentine Socks except I accidentally dropped one of them in the gap between the subway train & the station platform, so I decided it was fate and gave up trying. ;) Here's my progress so far on the August sock. I love everything about this yarn (Fleece Artist Sea Wool, in the Tiger colorway) and I love how it's only pooling around the gusset area. These are knitting up quick and it's only a matter of time before they are finished!

Great new pattern!

Thanks Anni for another great pattern!

I cast on for sock #1 a couple days ago and I'm already at the heel. I really love the way the pattern goes with the yarn I picked for it.

Spiralling Socks

The yarn is Colinette Jitterbug in Copperbeach.

I'm pretty sure I'll manage to get the pair done before the end of the month this time!

Spiralling Socks done - check!

Boy is it hot outside! The good thing is, that the socks where dry in record time. I kitchenered the second toe this morning, washed and blocked them and here they are!
I'm going to blog about it tomorrow. I did some modifications, but just so they would fit my feet. I liked the pattern, especially that Anni took the "3" theme from cuff -pattern-heel flap. Real nice.
Have fun knitting,
Monika

August Sock So Far...

Just wanted to check in and say hello - I am new to the knitalong. I am thoroughly enjoying the August sock and thought I would share my progress - this is sock #1 completed and sock #2 as of this AM (Monday). The pattern flows beautifully and I am so happy with this yarn - it's soft and fine, and combines some of my favourite colours.
Thank you Anni, I'm so glad you had room for another member - I'm already planning to use this pattern again :).
More details will be on my blog very shortly:

Missed it but only by a few days.

I did finally finish my July socks on August 4th just four days short of the contest cut off!

These are a gift that must be given in early September so I'm happy to be done and them nicely blocking away.

I think it took me so long for two reasons:
1. They are size 11.
2. Cabling slowed me up until a friend showed me how to do it without the cable needle. It was still slower than other patterns but I sped up much more after I got the hang of that.

I used some pretty hand-dyed green yarn from Laughing Rat Studios from Etsy.

Here they are!

Onto the August socks which I will definitely finish in August! It's a great pattern yet again Anni and I just wanted to say thank you!!! I am so thankful to be included in this KAL. Your patterns rock and it's great to be so productive! So, thank you!!!

Finished Serpentine Socks!

How funny - I knit my Serpentines from Sundara Lenten Rose, too. I knit my pair on 80 stitches instead of 68. Pictures and details are available on my blog.

There is actually a Pair!

There is actually a pair of these - and I'll try and take pictures for my blog of the recipient wearing them over the weekend. This, Anni, I think is the nicest sock I've ever knit. It is also my first toe-up sock. It also happens to be a perfect fit for my DB who is thrilled he gets them!

I'm looking foward to casting on the new pattern this weekend. I'm going down a needle size though - as I want the next pair to fit me :)

August pattern sent out

I've just e-mailed out the August pattern. Sorry it's a day late but I know you all understand why.

If you're a new member please check your junk folder if you think you're missing the e-mail.

I've organised a new system for sending out bulk e-mails this time and I think I've got it all sussed now. I hope that in organising the new system, noone has gotten left out, if you have't got the e-mail please e-mail me at stashaddictsAThotmail.co.uk and please put 'August pattern missing' in the subject line so that I can distinguish your e-mail from all those who want to join.

There may be one group that has been sent an e-mail without the attachment, I'm keeping my fingers crossed it did all go through.

Here's the August socks

It's a simple 3x3 rib pattern spiralling aroudn the foot, going in opposite directions on each foot. The rib pattern is knit from charts but it's quite easy to read. Basically the rib pattern moves one stitch to the left or right every two rows. Each row of the chart is read from left to right, something I forgot to add to the pattern.

Any questions or problems please let me know.

Happy knitting!

Heelless in July

Well, here are the WIP Sockamania socks. I am at the heel turn for both socks. This was a very slow pattern for me. These fit my size 10 1/2 foot - and are only my 2nd pair of toe-up socks. They are fitting great! I will be finishing these soon!

Didn`t make it

My July socks is only halfway done. I have had so many other deadlines to watch out for. I`m really looking forward to the August pattern, and this one am I going to finish in time.

Hello

This is my first month with the KAL and I just wanted to say hello :-) ...so Hello everyone. I have a blog, like so many others, lol...if you are interested you can find it here. :-)
Oh dear!
I joined this party in July and I was a-feared that I could never get a pair of socks done in 31 days and now here is the proof of my self-fulfilled prophecy!!! I tried, Oh! How I tried! I had to start this 4 times, ( the toe up thingy, messed up pattern, wrong yarn, not enough yarn.) Finally came together and I was getting the gest of the pattern, a few crossed over cables here and there, but then I DID memorize it and could work 'paperless' but still, no sockies. Just this sad, half finished one and now a new pattern coming down the pike to mock me . *sigh* Well, at least when that nuclear winter kicks in I will have lots of socks to knit partners for.......

Close but no cigar!

Hi Everyone!

Anni, I hope all is well and the little one is recovering nicely. That's all very stressful so I hope you take good care of you too!

I finished my first sock last week and quickly cast on for the second. If I didn't have to work I think it would have been done but alas, my Monday through Friday is quite sucked up by work.

So, I did finish the first one and got to the gusset on the second (toe up).

These are a gift and must be done soon so I plan to finish sock 2 this week. I love the pattern and think that the cables just took a while sort of hindering my progress. This sock though did allow me to try some new things.

It is now my second set knit toe up and I'm knitting sock #2 on circulars for magic loop. I'm a little nervous about how the heel will go but I'll give it a try! A friend also taught me how to cable without a cable needle which I started at the end of sock 1 and all of sock 2. It makes it go SO much faster!!!

Here's sock 1:

I'm really excited to get started on the August socks! I will definitely finish those on time!

Didn't Make It

This is my lone, unfinished sock for July. I really like the toe-up construction--this is my first toe-up sock--but it's not going very fast. I agree with many of the other knitters that although this is a very pretty pattern, cabling every third row slows it down! I'll definitely finish the pair, but it may take awhile. Thanks for a well-written pattern, Anni! Your short row instructions worked very well.
