July Celtic Cable Socks -- Completed

Rainy, nasty weather has kept me indoors this holiday weekend. What else to do but knit. I started the Celtic Cable pattern on Thursday and finished the first sock this morning. I am knitting it top down vs toe up and added a ribbing of k2, p2. This required making some adjustments, but not a lot. I also chose to knit the cable down the entire length of the back on the sock. I didn't check my yarn yardage before beginning and wasn't sure if I would have enough on the skein to complete. I made it with a few yards to spare. I chose Artyarns SuperUltra Merino in soft shades of orange. The ankle is knit of #2 dpn and I switched to a #1 dpn when I started on the heel. The socks fits perfectly.

The cable pattern looks difficult but it is really very easy.
Time to cast on for sock #2. If this rain keeps up I will have this pair done before the weekend is over.
UPDATE - July 9: The rain finally stopped, but that didn't keep me from finishing this pair of socks. The combination of the yarn and this pattern ranks them as one of my favorites.

Beautiful modification to an already beautiful pattern. I was fearing this pattern but Barb's modifications are an inspiration. Great Job!!!

Beautifully knit and great color. I am struggling with the toe-up bit...ripped twice already, may take your lead and go top down.

Lucky you!Top down allows you to get to the pattern faster! I;m doing 2 at a time toe up, and only about halfway to increasing for the gussets. Mindless knitting, but good for watching TV. Your socks are beautiful. Hmmmm, what would happen if I put a cable band up the front of the sock as well. . . .

Sandy and Steve, I thought about doing adding a front cable too. If you do decide to go that route, make sure you have enough yarn. Did I read on this blog that you are using Happy Feet by Plymouth? That yarn does not have a lot of yardage, under 200 yards per skein. Also adding a second cable band might require adding a few more stitches to ensure a not to tight fit.

Really lovely! I do like your rendition very much. The colour is also quite yummy, rather like orange sherbert and vanilla ice cream!

Wow Looks great. I casted on but now I am waiting till I finish my cowl, Only one counter,,,well actually I have two but DD1 saw the second one and decided to "barrow" it for her socks until she can get one of her own. Store was out when we went so alas my plans of being able to work on two projects at the same time went out the window. Better go work on it so I have something to post this month.

These are beautiful, Love the colour :) I toyed with doing the cables right up the leg, haven't decided yet, I do like the way it looks tho :)

Those socks look great. Definitely pinching your idea for continuing the cable right up the leg. Though wondering whether to put it up the front, so I can admire my handiwork while wearing them.

Lovely socks! I am tempted to do cuff down, but I really need to try toe up again. The first time was a total hair pulling experience. I don't think that it should be that hard. I had better cast on today so that I can finish in time.
